Yes friend you can do all the curious expirements with your operating system without having to spend time reinstalling them due to damage made to it.

Also you can test your new software before you install it to your operating system and check if it will work properly and guess what? If they don’t work you don’t have to wait to uninstall it and clean the trace left behind by the software in registry and folders created by them

The software which can make these all come true is VMware

It is virtualization software which will create a virtual pc in your computer and inside that virtual computer you can install the operating system you like without damaging your current operating system.

Eg. You are currently having Windows Vista but want to try new Bunt and don’t want to remove or make dual boot you can install the Ubuntu in your Virtual computer and can work on it as using the real operating system

Also you can install different software and also can play with the hardware configuration to some extent.

The VMware software is available in many different Versions and also there are paid and free versions too.

If you are the fan of Microsoft they also got the similar software call VirtualPC but I would not recommend it because it has got many compatibility problems with the open source software and don’t have support for them.
